Apart. Being apart from one another. I am here and you are there. Separated. Distance between things, between people, between ideas. Physical separation. Emotional separation. Falling apart.
"We think that the point is to pass the test or overcome the problem, but the truth is that things don't really get solved. They come together and they fall apart. Then they come together again and fall apart again. It's just like that. The healing comes from letting there be room for all of this to happen: room for grief, for relief, for misery, for joy”.
― Pema Chödrön, When Things Fall Apart: Heartfelt Advice for Hard Times
The idea that things don't really get solved - I'm a problem solver, a fixer, a finder of solutions. An implementer of strategies. It's easy to go after the relief and the joy but it's hard to make that room for grief. I find it even hard to type the word "misery", let alone make space for it.
We'll just put it over there.
But things do come together AND they fall apart. For all of us. There isn't a destination, a "finally when I am there it's all solved", a place where this no longer happens.
There's good luck and bad luck. There's grief and relief and misery and joy. There's coming together AND there's falling apart.
We just need to make room for all of it.
This is part of a weekly creative photography project - #foliophoto. Each Tuesday you'll have one week to create a photo inspired by a word prompt using an iPhone, DSLR or android. Share it on Instagram (#foliophoto), Flickr, or a blog post link-up. Or all three! I create a collage of the photos submitted and post it here a day or so later because I love seeing everyone's work all together.
Next week's prompt is energy. I'll be looking for your photo next Tuesday!
